Resetting Family Worship

Resetting family worship

Jos_24:15  And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

A regular household will have an order of some sort each day. This may start with the usual get-up-out-of-bed-and-get-to-work routine and then ends with dinner, dishes, maybe some TV and then we’re ready for bed. For the health conscious, their routine may include 1 to 2 hours at the gym.

Television, Internet, sport and other forms of entertainment have caused many families to neglect their time with the Word of God and even just being a family! We are satisfied with going to church once or twice a week, maybe once more for a prayer meeting or cell group. If you lead a ‘Christian Home’ this should not be the case and you now have the opportunity and the responsibility to change this.

Our Time with God

Take a few minutes and honestly calculate the time you spend time on entertainment, television, sport or gym and compare that to your time with God. I believe that there should be a balance, and yes, maybe we need time to relax and be ‘entertained.’ The question though: what is the balance intended to be? What does God have in mind for us as families and how can we get back to being real ‘Christian Homes’ again?

Our time with our children

The general belief in our days is that the Sunday School teacher or the Youth Leader – or the pastor –  should educate our children in Scriptures. This is as wrong as it can be! As parents, we should be teaching our children in the ways of the Lord. There is no way a Sunday School program can teach your children. If we should calculate the time children our children spend in the Sunday School, you will understand that the Sunday School teacher does not have enough time at all. Let’s say you bring your children once a week to Sunday School. The year has 51 weeks, now take away the school holidays: let’s say 20% is taken away, that leaves us with 30 Sundays. Out of these you or your children may be sick, or you may not be able to take them for whatever reason. Let’s estimate that to about 10% of the available weeks, leaving us with around 27 weeks (already almost half of the Sundays of the year).

Should we take a conservative 1 hour, (60 minutes) per Sunday School lesson – as absolute quality time of teaching – the teacher only spends about a day (27 hours) with your child! 1 day out of 365 days! Can you honestly expect one person to teach your child in the ways of the Lord if he/she only sees him 1 day in the year? I do not think so.

Compare that to spending an hour each day with your child. You can do the calculations yourself.

The biggest reason why we are not having family worship times is because we feel either inadequate or we simply do not make the time to do it. We think that the family worship time should be a mini version of a regular church meeting. Our traditions and idea of what church is, causes us to think this way. If we realize that WE are the church – everyone – then we will have a different approach.

If we profess that we are Christians, then we should also lead the way in family worship so that when people come to our homes, they will see what family worship is and that we are a Christian family. The family is the back-bone of society; if we turn our families back to God, our society will turn back to God!

It is time to RESET!

Father God, help us to renew our minds a reset and help us to reset our families to what You have intended it to be. Lead us by your Holy Spirit so that we can make a difference in our families, community and ultimately in society.

His Righteousness Revealed

Rom 1:16-17  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Life Application:

What is righteousness?

It is defined in one dictionary as: the quality of being morally right or justifiable.

It also means: goodness, virtue, virtuousness, uprightness, decency, integrity, worthiness, rectitude, probity, morality, ethicalness, high-mindedness, justice, honesty, honour, honourableness, innocence, blamelessness, guiltlessness,

If we look at it and ask the question ‘What is God’s righteousness?’ then we can see God’s goodness, His justice, Sis honour and all of the above.

In the context of the Rom 1:16, it is then clear that the gospel reveals the attributes of God. Through the Gospel we see His goodness, virtue, justice, honor, etc!

a righteous man can be trusted to act honorably regardless of the circumstances (Merriam-Webster]

We can therefore trust God to do good, just and honorable things when we believe in the Gospel – This is the GOOD NEWS!

Discussion points:

  1. How does it make you feel that God will do the right and good things if we believe in the Gospel?
  2. How does this impact your faith?
  3. Have you experienced healing because of the power of the gospel?

Righteous Father, thank you that we can expect You to do the good things in our lives when we believe. Help us to share the Good News and Your Righteousness with others.

Let us Praise the Lord! – 2

Last time we dealt with the first two verses of Ps. 103 and now we will continue with the next next two (verse 3 and 4).

Verse 3: “He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.”              Verse 4: He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.”

I love the NLT of this Psalm for the one reason that it makes it more personal for me and you.  The Scripture states; “He forgives ALL MY sins and heals ALL My diseases”.  It is such a profound and bold statement that David makes here – although he lived long before the death and resurrection of Christ.  How could he say something like this as he still lived under the Law?  Or did he already understood the grace of God – which will come through Jesus – because we see so many prophetic Psalms flow from his heart and pen.

When we grasp the full extend and context of this simple line that He “forgives all my sins” – and this being a verb –  then we can only return to the first two verses where he also said: ” Let all that I am praise the Lord” (twice).   What else can we do – because we can never repay God for His mercy and grace!   The only way to repay Him is to accept His sacrificial offering on the cross of Golgotha, that His blood redeems us from sin and death, to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and then to serve and praise Him with all that I am.   Yes, He do forgive all our sins and He still do heal all our diseases through faith and in the Name of Jesus Christ!

This word “redeems” also mean that God bought us (with His own blood through Jesus Christ) from  eternal death.   But it does not stop there, because He also crowns me with love and tender mercies.  Basically it means He loves us unconditionally as a Father would love His children.  See the next scripture:

Joh 1:12 (KJV) “But as many as received him, to them gave he power (right) to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name;”   God gives me and you the power (rights; authority; seal of approval) to become sons of the living God when we believe on His name!  Powerful!

He crowns us – He covers us from top to bottom with His love, which is so evident for all to see.  Over and above His love, He also deals with us on a daily basis with a tender heart and soft words of guidance.  We just have to listen and respond according to His Word and guidance.  But now when we understand Him and what He has done for us, we respond positively through our service and praise and not because we are forced to do so.

Let all that I am praise Him for He forgives of all my sins!                                                                                                          Let all that I am praise Him for He heals all my diseases!

Let us praise the Lord!

The Word of God and especially the Psalms, are full of praises for our God, the Creator of all!

It is so sad to see and hear how people would just ignore His existence and the fact that He IS the Creator, the Great I AM!  The scientists are spending millions to find the “God-particle” while God Himself, His fullness is all around them.  You just have to reach out in faith to touch Him and start a relationship with the Savior of all, Jesus Christ.

The other day I was watching a film (a so called futuristic film) and then the one guy talked about prayer and God.  The other one asked what is God?  The first one replied “Oh, that is the one whom you talk to , to do something for you and then disappoints you”.   So sad that the world out there do not recognize the love and power of God!  But, yes the finger points right back to us as the Church that we have not portrayed Christ as we should have.  We have created a “god” who disappoints; who is not in touch with his children; who does not care about our troubles, who is unfaithful, etc.  But the real God and Father of all is quite the opposite.

I want to start off with Psalm 103 (NLV) and with only the first two verses:

  1. Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name;
  2. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me.

There are so many aspects of God to praise and we will come to that as we progress with this blog message, but His name is higher than any other name!   Let us praise His name, whether it is in Hebrew (if you are a Jew); or in English; or Afrikaans; or whatever language you call upon the name of the Lord, because the God that we serve is the God of all people and of all languages.

Lord I praise your name for being God of Creation, for being my God and Savior.  Teach me o Lord to praise you with my whole heart, with all that I am I want to praise and adore you.  Teach me and remind me to never forget the good things you have done for me.  Amen.

Venda Outreach – August 2015 (Hope Farm)

This little church belonging to Galilee Ministries was born and planted from our very first Outreach on the Hope Farm in the Tshipise district in May 2013. The membership of the church has grown to 75 people who attend the worship services on a regular basis.

To understand the true picture behind the birth and growth of this church, one must then also recognize that most of the people are seasonal workers and only in the area during the citrus season between April and September every year.

Hope Training May 2014 373They do not have a formal place of worship but hold their meetings under a tree when conducting their Sunday services. They can only utilize the citrus storage facility for 6 months of the year during the ‘off-season’. Notwithstanding this, we continue to experience spiritual growth amongst the members which leave us both excited and in awe of the work that God is doing among the people. At first, the men came forward to give their hearts to the Lord but when the seed of the Gospel continued to grow and bear fruit it caused their wives, brothers and friends to seek the Lord and became born again. Over this weekend, we saw firsthand how it has truly permeated throughout entire households to include their children, even as young as 12 years old, to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

We surprised the leaders with new T-shirts with our ministry logo on the back and they proudly wore it to service on Sunday. With our previous visit in March, the leadership requested suitable training material which they can utilize in their midweek and also Sunday meetings. This request was also a sign to us that the people want to grow spiritually and that we needed to provide more teachings on a regular and faster basis. Due to this a lot of specific training material, some of which is from our first year Bible College course, was provided and Past David Miles surprised them with a few boxes full of Christian literature. The same material was also handed out in Madimbo.

Once again on Sunday 15 August we held a baptism service and Pastor David Miles had the privilege of baptizing another 9 members.

20150816_143429_HDRWhen we look at the commission of Christ to the disciples “to go forth and make disciples and baptize them…” we recognize that it is only one aspect of it all, but there is also the important part “to teach them”. Consequently is it so much more important for us to continue the work up North and provide leadership training, to provide specific training material with which they can continue on a weekly basis, to identify and empower specific new leaders in the community who will take the message of the Gospel further and to govern the church according to the principles from the Word. When we see and hear of active false pastors; prophets; and apostles who prophesy lies in the name of God; teach their people to eat grass and drink petrol for healing and to eat snakes, just to name a few; then we understand the importance and burden on our shoulders to teach them correctly and empower them with the true Holy Spirit and with the gift of discernment.

books 3

We also would like to thank Pastors David & Tracey Miles for the donation of all the spiritual literature and books that they provided to the churches.  Also to  Pastor Paul Louw from AFM Corpus Christi in Derdepoort, Pretoria for the donation of second hand clothing and shoes.  All books, Bibles and clothes were put in the care of the local pastor’s in Madimbo and Hope Farm for distribution as needed.

In the end, when we look back, we can only concur that the Lord Jesus is good and always faithful.  We can acknowlegde and agree with the slogan on our trailer that we continually have “Another successful delivery of the Gospel of Jesus Christ”!

When you see our truck and trailer on the way to deliver the mighty and unashamed Gospel of Jesus Christ, stop us for a chat or a cup of coffee. We would love to meet you! You are also welcome to register with our organisation and join us as a volunteer on our outreaches.

Do not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it is a power of God unto salvation, healing and deliverance. Proclaim it daily!

Venda Outreach – August 2015 (Madimbo Village)

The Outreach to Venda was to have taken place in May or June this year, however unforeseen circumstances continually put the date out to the month of August.   And God always has perfect timing for His purpose!

Eventually we could get all we needed together and finally pack the vehicle and trailer before leaving on Friday 14 August around 15:00.   Pastors Dave & Tracey Miles joined my wife Venetia and I on this Outreach and they were tasked to deliver the Gospel messages on Sunday morning at Madimbo Village and on Hope Farm.  Over and above that, Pastor Dave and I also conducted a leadership seminar – well, not only to the leaders but more or less to the whole congregation in Madimbo and other guests, as they are all very eager to receive and learn about the Word of God.

We were joined by a friend and businessman, Lloyd Chapman of CDS, who has a heart and a vision to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ being proclaimed all over the world.  He also brought his new General Manager, Linda De Beer and her family to see firsthand the circumstances in which the people receive the Gospel and how they worship God.

On this occasion Lloyd had the privilege to donate one of his old trucks to the local pastor to transport the people to and from church. This is a true gesture of love and servanthood in Christ and we know he and his business will be richly favoured and blessed by the Lord Jesus Christ. papers

When he handed the keys and papers over to Pastor Lutendo, the congregation went wild with excitement and joy and praised God for His provision.

An Outreach group member mentioned he saw a church member walking up to the church building along the dirt road – and by the time that person entered the building, his shoes were wiped clean as if there was no dust at all in the area.

Woman and men dress up in their best clothes, although they have to sit on chairs which had seen better days.  The floor does not have expensive tiles or carpet, but just an old tarpaulin to cover the front area while the rest is still ordinary dirt floor which had been raked level.  It shows their commitment and gratification in serving God and that it doesn’t go about the fancy building but rather the attitude of the heart.

As promised to the congregation, a notice board was erected with the name of the church on their premises.  On Sunday morning the local Chief’s representative reported that they will enlarge the area of the property free of charge as they see the good work being done in the area and that the church is growing fast.

Venda Outreach – 14 -17 August 2015

We are preparing to depart on Friday for another outreach event on the Hope Farm (Tshipise district) and in Madimbo Village in Venda.

We are all so excited to go once again and spread this awesome message of hope from the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people in the rural areas.  According to feedback from the two churches is that they are still growing and a couple of people need to be baptized after they have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior during the past months.

Based upon the news flashes over the past few weeks of the “pastor” in the Pretoria area who deceives his congregation to eat grass, rats and even live snakes for “salvation & healing” purposes, we are fully aware of the massive burden on our shoulders to identify, equip and train suitable people as shepherds of their flock and to oversee that they preach and practice ONLY the truth of the Word of God.

We will report back on our outreach as soon as possible and also visit our Facebook page of Galilee International Ministries.

Website under construction

As you can see we are busy with updating of the website to more modern themes and layouts – but due to a lack of technical knowledge of websites, it takes a bit longer to figure all the jargon out.

Hopefully all the pages and posts will be up and running soon again with the latest information of what we are busy with.  So much have happened since the last update of the website in May 2014 and we will try to report on it all.
