In today’s society much of what we (the older generation) we taught as wrong has today become the norm. Promiscuity abounds, sex before marriage is normal and having illegitimate children is acceptable. Same sex relationships are no longer frowned on and a marriage of same sex couples is now theirs right.
We forget however that there is a God in heaven who made the values we were taught to live by. In Exodus 20:3-17 we are given the basic don’ts i.e don’t commit adultery, don’t murder, don’t bow down to any other God etc.
In today’s society the person who commits murder has what is commonly known as ‘human rights’ and the family who has suffered the loss has less right than the murderer. Today we are not allowed to defend ourselves in our homes because of “human rights”. However, as a child of God we have certain rights too!
- We have the right to be known as children of God.
- We have the right to call upon His name in times of trouble.
- We have the right to be called sons/daughters of God.
- We have the right to be forgiven because of His blood shed for us.
- We have the right to salvation because He gave us the way.
God hasn’t changed and neither have his guidelines for holy living. Many will say the Bible is outdated and that it does not apply to life today. We should never forget that He is the same yesterday, today and forever and He doesn’t change! We cannot compromise or allow sin to sneak into our lives as it will contaminate all we put our hands to.
