In the beginning of this year, we started off with a couple of new ministries; such as fellowship groups at my house, an early morning men’s prayer meeting at a business,  another prayer meeting at a restaurant for the waiters and staff and also a Bible College class for new students and also distributing Bibles along the way.

Although the people involved all do know about Jesus Christ, it is quite interesting to see how they react to basic stuff; such as speaking on the power of the Word of God, the power of each promise, that the Word of God is Truth and also how to apply it  in our daily lives.  Some of the attendees commented they still do not know how to read or study the Bible.  And that makes me excited because now we can work with someone who still wants to learn something new from the Word of God.

Our first sessions started off exactly with the concept of “back to basics” even without thinking about it. It just seemed as the logical point to start off with.  How can we believe in “a God” if we do not know who He is, what is His characteristics and attributes and how and where does He reveal Himself to you and me?   When asked, most people (referring to Christians in general and even born- again children of God), would not know the name of their God.  Remember that “God” is not a name, but only a title.  But our God does have a name and He reveals it to us through His Word.  It is important to know His Name, because His Name is holy and powerful and we have the privilege to call upon His name in praise and worship, but also when in need!  Let’s look at scripture:

“And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth”.  (Exo 9:16 – KJV)

Our first sessions involved the basic outlay of the Word of God and how God inspired various people to write about the stories of their lives and also to include the main message of it all:  The revelation of who God is and His plan of salvation for mankind!  We have one Author of the Bible and many scribes.  In His Word, God identifies Himself as the Creator as well as the only Savior of all. While discussing the characteristics and attributes of God and how He reveals it in specific blessings/ promises to the people of Israel, it became so clear that each promise God has given to me and you, is anchored/rooted  in one or more of His characteristics or attributes.

When we learn that God is unchangeable, then we also find some security in this fact because then if He says He loves us today, then He will not change His mind tomorrow or in 10 years’ time.  He is the same today, tomorrow and even to the end of times.  When He promise something, God WILL fulfill it because it is in His character to do so!

“ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? ( Num 23:19 – KJV)

Therefore, He can promise healing to me and you, because He is the healer!  He is the Jehovah-Jireh =  because He is the One who provides  and many more! He is able to do this all because He is the Almighty God.  Nothing is impossible for Him and therefore He is willing and able to promise us all these things.  Look at the following scripture:

“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luk 1:37 –ESV).  Look even closer at two specific words in this verse:

  • Nothing – it means; naught; zero; nil; zilch; not anything.
  • Impossible – now here we have about 23 different meanings which range from “unfeasible” to “unworkable” and even to “impractical”.
    • In other words: zero things will be impracticable or unworkable for God – because He is the God who works and specializes in the “impossible”, the “impractical”, but also in the extraordinary miracles in this world.
    • “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me? (Jer 32:27 –ESV)
    • And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, (Act 19:11 –ESV)

In our personal lives we have seen and experienced it first-hand how God can deal with the “impossible”.  I lost my construction company during the first months of the recession period in 2007 and therefore could not pay the bond on our home (about 30 months) or meet the payments on my business vehicles due to financial difficulties.  The tithes from my wife’s salary still kept our ministry in Danville going strong and we did NOT withdraw it for our personal situation.  Believe me, this could have at least paid the premium on one vehicle.

Each time when I cried out in desperation to the Lord, He did not answer my specific requests for deliverance, but He kept His promise to me that “He will not forsake me or let go of my mind.” A promise that He has given to me about 22 years ago and He still keeps and fulfills it when necessary.  We prayed and cried before the Lord many times and even had to cut our soul ties with our house and personal belongings, as it could have been taken from us in a flash! In faith I have put the Warrants of Execution from the Sheriff’s office and legal companies in my Bible and closed it.  Now it was out of my hands and in the hands of God to deal with. But it was tough to get it out of our minds and fears!

When we reach out in faith (not in fear), God cannot deny us!  When you apply faith in your desperation or request to God, He is compelled to react accordingly.  There is a vast difference e between your faith-in-action and reaction in fear!  God is compelled to react according to your faith, maybe not in the specific terms as what you have requested, because He knows the best and will provide the best solution to any circumstance in your life and also at the best time according to His will.  I do believe we first need to learn the lessons from these experiences that our Father has prepared for us in this specific time, before we will find the resolution.

We did not find deliverance from our bond (being paid up by some donor or receiving a deposit to get rid of the arrears) or a pardon from our debt.  No, but we did find grace from God and His “impossible protection” that our home is still intact (all legal procedures stopped) and we did not lose any vehicle or asset. He also provided for us in a miraculous way to meet our payments as required again.  But we had to learn a valuable lesson in the  stewardship of our finances – and we are still learning day by day.

You can trust the Almighty God and Father – because He is faithful.  That is a promise!
