Back to Basics: Part 2

The Apostle Paul wrote: So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (Rom 10:17).  We need to hear the Word of God before we can receive faith in God and in His Word.  But in our modern times we are not limited to the Word of God as we find so many other media such as DVD’s where we can also read and hear the Word of God or at least about the wondrous works of God.

We are living in the best of times – not only in the end times – but also in the modern age of technology that provides so many revelations to mankind. Things that were still hidden even less than 20 years ago. I mean, 20 years ago (1993), we only started with PC’s (the 286 versions) in the workplace and “internet” were still in its design mode.   Just think about the massive intelligence and wisdom drive that were brought about with the computer age, the Hubble telescope and other satellites that brought us the amazing pictures of deep space and the universe.  I am also referring to the ability to search on the internet for information that was previously unknown.  Even this message on our blog, will not only be read by a couple of our friends in South Africa, but it will also be read by hundreds of other people in diverse countries (such as China and the Ukraine, etc.) through the modern day technologies.

Praise God for the wisdom and knowledge that He has bestowed upon man so that He can reveal even more greater stuff about His creation and about His power and wisdom. God is the source of all wisdom and we can see it in His Word and even in every tiny detail of creation.   And we ain’t seen nothing yet!

That’s all for now – I will keep you posted on the follow up of this message about the great and awesome God we serve.

Prospectus: BinaH Advanced Bible College

Introduction:

The Executive Board of Galilee International Ministries (SA), is pleased to introduce the revamped Bible College to all current and future visitors to our website and potential students.

First of all, the name of our Bible College is:

  • The BinaH Avanced Bible College  (B -ABC)
  • The word is pronounced as in “been-ah” (some resources describe it as “bee-naw”)
  • The overall focus will be on the “advanced/higher” level of learning and insight into the Word of  God;

BinaH  – is a Hebrew word which basically means “understanding”.  But this Hebrew word is far more complex than just one single meaning and according to various Hebrew scholars, the Strong’s Concordance, Hebrew-Greek  Key Word Study Bible and other biblical resources, the root of this word is also from another Hebrew word “beyn”; “bin”; “biyn” – different spelling according to different sources – which means the following:

  • To discern between, perceive, observe, pay attention to, to be intelligent, to comprehend, knowing, to heed to, make intelligent, to instruct, to teach and to be prudent.
  • The primary meaning is insight and understanding and discernment is a closely-related idea as the word inculcates the concept of distinguishing between right and wrong.  It is specifically noted from the meaning of this word, that it does not refer to the mere accumulation of data, but more to the acquisition of superior knowledge.
  • The word implies the ability to distinguish between the true and the false, the right from the wrong and proper understanding comes from rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Tim 2:15) since we are given knowledge and insight of the One God through His Word (2 Tim 3:16);
  • Other scholars also refers this word Binah to the analytic and distinguishing aspects of God’s thought and it is symbolized as part of the Shekinah.

Seeing that this word Binah has such a powerful meaning and also refers to the ability to “discern’ and “to have insight”,  other mysticism groups such as the Jewish Kabbalah and even New Age groups have also applied the word in their specific theories and practices.  However, Galilee Ministries and our BinaH Bible College does not have any relationship or connection to their teachings.

About BinaH Advanced Bible College:

The Philosophy:

The very foundation of this Bible College is based on the true meaning of the Hebrew word, that we will teach and instruct all students to hear the Word of God in Spirit and in truth, allow them  to discern between right and wrong, truth and false teachings and finally lead them to receive insight and understanding about the God we serve and His awesome Word.  Our slogan is therefore derived from this word:  “to teach with insight and understanding”.

The Word Binah is associated with the power of conceptual analysis and reasoning, both inductive and deductive and in particular with the power to grasp and comprehend the insights of “chochma”  (wisdom)The “understanding” of binah also implies the ability to examine the degree of truth or falsehood inherent in a particular idea. This is expressed in Job 34:3: “the ear examines words.” The ear represents the sense of hearing and is therefore associated with binah in the following manner:

  • “Hear, O Israel…” (Deuteronomy 6:4) means “listen attentively, discern, to understand….”

The Word says: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom 10:17 KJV).  In order to receive the deeper insight and understanding of the Word of God, we need to receive faith through the hearing (continually) of the Word of God.  To reach the deeper meanings and lessons from the Word of God, the desirable quality to be awakened in our spirit  – is that of silence.  This is appropriate since it is necessary to keep quiet in order to hear,  but particularly to listen attentively.  It is right at this point in “Binah”  where each lesson becomes established and where you learn that silence (meditation of the Word) is often a powerful weapon.  You come to realize that true understanding stems from knowing what you must struggle through and what you must let go of in order to grow.

Next week we will continue with the Vision of the Bible College as we present the complete Prospectus.

God is above the best modern technology

Over the years mankind has been searching and discovering various things on earth and beyond, changing things to make life on earth more convenient and pleasant.  We call it technology and other people will call it “money spinners”, profits, competitive edge, etc.

In the 70’s it was quite a thing to send human beings to the moon, land and then return back to earth safely again while you can think of a million things that could go wrong with such an expedition.  Ever since and especially in the past 15 years, the world has evolved drastically in the field of technology, health science, communication, etc.

We have even come to the point where man could built an aero plane and carry hundreds of people onboard and land safely at another destination in another country which are thousands of kilometers away.  And on a yearly basis, the shape and technology of these aero planes changed to the extend where they could fly faster, more cost efficient and with more safety features.   And today we board these flying tin cans without thinking of all the technology involved to override the law of gravity and other aspects such as cabin pressure, temperature and oxygen.  We have a silent affirmation of believe that it will work and we will land safely again.  Some of us still do pray about it because our faith and trust is not in man nor in safety features or in modern technology, but in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Mankind has “evolved” – yes, I want to use the word evolve because it means “change, grow, advance”, etc.  – through the advancement in technology and we can do things better and at a much faster pace than before.   But we have not become better baboons – we are still the same creation of God as man and woman, although we sometimes act as if we are coming from the jungle.

Computers has made life much easier and through cellphone technology we can reach and communicate with each other much faster and more convenient.  Even searching for a scripture or doing Bible study is much more advanced and easier than a couple of years ago.  Come to think of it, through technology this message which I compile in South Africa, will be read by hundreds of people across the globe in a period of 24 hours.  For that matter, the proclaiming of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has also found some benefit from technology and praise God for that!

But I don’t want to uplift technology or the wisdom of man.  The thought that I received this morning while praying was that mankind is able to conceptualize all these wonderful things, design and built it at such a fast pace these days.  Only recently they have designed systems that has send a spacecraft to Mars and being able to “talk” remotely with this machine and receive messages and other information back from the experiments being conducted on the planet millions of miles away from earth.   It is somewhat mind boggling.

But what really is mind boggling is the fact that mankind ( a major proportion if it), still cannot figure out who God is.  Scientists are spending millions in euros to build a machine (mankind can only create machines) to simulate the “big bang theory” and to “see/discover” the exact point of creation.  Even these scientists admit they can come up with lots of theory, but one missing factor in it all still remain elusive for them and they call it the “God-factor”.   Things which they cannot explain from science, but we can explain it from a point of faith in God and His Word .

Coming back to the previous insert, mankind can only create machines and things from material that is already in existence.  Through their acquired wisdom and knowledge, they can built various machines from the very material that God has created the earth of, such as steel, platinum, gold, diamonds, wood, etc.   A brand new aero plane is nothing else than the dust of this earth, as it will rust and rot away to dust again when not attended to by mankind.

How is it that mankind is searching for a creator, while the Creator of all has already revealed Himself through His Word and Jesus Christ?  He is not on another planet.  The Word teaches us that God (who is Spirit) became flesh and dwelled amongst us as a mere mortal man.  But He also has another quality, and that is being completely man and completely God  (Col 2:9; 1 Tim 3:16).  Jesus Christ is the true revelation of God himself and therefore He was able not only to perform miracles of healing,  or to have dominion over nature and the demons, but most of all to forgive people their sins.  According to Scripture ONLY God can forgive your sins when you confess it.

  • If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1Jn 1:9  ESV)

Jesus Christ was crucified and His blood redeems us from sin and the penalty of death.  It is through His Name that we find forgiveness of sins (Acts 4:12) and also the righteousness which makes us blameless and innocent again.  No one else and most definitely not the priest of the Catholic Church or any other preacher can forgive your sins on your behalf or on the behalf of Christ.  Yet, Jesus Christ forgave people their sins while on earth which is a true revelation of His godliness.

Even with all of the knowledge and wisdom in this material world of today, God is still far above it all.

I wish I could describe Him to you.

He is indescribable. He is incomprehensible. He is invincible. He is irresistible. You can’t get Him out of your mind. That is my King.

The Pharisees could not stand Him, but they found out that they could not stop Him. Pilate could not find any fault in Him. Herod could not kill Him. Death could not handle Him, and the grave could not hold Him. That is my King.

He is Jesus my King. He is the Key to knowledge. He is the Wellspring of wisdom.
He is the Doorway of deliverance. He is the Pathway of peace.
He is the Roadway of righteousness. He is the Highway of holiness. He is the Gateway to glory.

Do you know Him?

He supplies strength for the weak. He seeks the weary and the tired. He sympathizes and He saves. He strengthens and sustains. He guards and He guides.  He heals the sick. He cleansed the lepers. He forgives sinners. He discharges debtors.
He delivers the captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate.  He regards the aged and orphans.  He rewards the diligent, and He purifies the meek.

I wonder if you know Him?

The modern world cannot figure Him out, but cannot ignore Him.  They can use His name in vain and in blaspheme,  but He still remains true and faithful.  He is the very source of all wisdom and one day – according to Scripture – every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord.   He knows the end from the beginning and He knows the motive of your heart even before you speak a word.

There are so many treasures locked in the Word of God, which reveals His plans and love for you and me.  Read the Word, trust God fully for your life and enjoy each day in His amazing love and grace.  One of my favorite verses are the following one:

  • The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.  There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. (PS 19:1- 3 ESV)

Make a difference in someone’s life today and lead them to Jesus Christ.
