This is mostly because we are not doing it regularly. We do not really need to pray lengthy prayers, but at least try to mention their names somehow.

We tend to bring our needs before God, but we forget that Jesus said that God knows what we need. In a way, we pray selfishly. Our prayers should not be a ‘grocery list.’ When praying we should be asking God to provide in the need of others, then we will reap the benefits ourselves anyway.

We should also be thanking God for what He is doing in the lives of others. Just magnifying Him in this way is sometimes more effective than pray that God does something in a specific way. God knows best. He knows exactly what needs to happen and how He wants to do it – Just glorify Him for the work He is doing and you will see the result.

Discussion points:

Have you been able to pray for others and found that God also provided your own needs automatically shortly after?

How did this make you feel?

Can you think of someone that needs to be prayed for right now that needs God’s provision in any way?

Prayer:

Father, your love is amazing, steady and unchanging.
